Ongoing Mission includes:

Work camps at our Presbytery of South Dakota Church Camps. Both camps are located in the Black Hills. OPC members have painted the lodge at Camp Rimrock as well as replaced an old shingle roof on the lodge with a metal roof. They have repaired plumbing, fixed screen doors, painted cabins, washed and organized the cabin and lodge curtains and many other tasks at the camps.

Hosting both AmeriCorps and other Presbyterian Missioners who have come to Pierre to help rebuild homes damaged in the flood of 2011. In order to provide housing the church turned classrooms into bedrooms (purchasing ten bunk beds) and one bathroom into a shower room.

 

Community mission activities include:

  • Filling boxes for senior citizens through the Feeding South Dakota program,

  • Filling backpacks for elementary students throughout the school year.

  • Serving the “Banquet” on an annual basis… providing a meal for up to 400 individuals.

  • Actively participating from the planning through the walking in the annual Relay for Life.

  • Caroling throughout the community… generally during the Christmas holidays but also celebrating Easter.

  • And many individual volunteer projects occur on a daily basis.


Mission Giving:

  • OPC gives ten percent (10%) of its actual giving to local and worldwide mission.

  • OPC gives to all four of the Presbyterian Special Offerings to include: One great Hours of Sharing, Pentecost Offering, Peacemaking Offering and Joy Offering.

  • OPC collects food items during the month of January for the Pierre Pantry.

  • OPC gives to local mission projects such as the Pierre/Ft. Pierre schools’ self esteem fund; Missouri Shores Domestic Violence Center, Boys and Girls Club and Pierre Area Referral Services.
